Why I am contesting NANS Kwara Chairmanship – Comr. Hadnan

A final year undergraduate of the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Information,  Communication and Technology, Kwara State University,  Malete, Ahmed Funsho Hadnan, who threw his hat into the ring for the 2024 Chairmanship race of the Kwara state axis of the National Association of Nigerian Students’ (NANS Kwara), has disclosed why he is running for the top seat.

In a declaration statement personally signed by him and made available to Fresh Insight, Hadnan said he seeks Kwara students’ mandate to become the NANS Kwara Chairman in a bid to uplift students’ collective welfare through active programmes and policy interventions.

The statement partly reads “Over the year, I have visited notable tertiary institutions in the state, and I have had a grasp of the challenges faced by each institution, which, upon my emergence, will be addressed accordingly. Gallant Nigerian students,  my experience within student communities positions me as the most suitable candidate to uplift the association for our students’ collective welfare.

“Upon my emergence,  bi-monthly, Senate sittings will become our norm.  This will help us to regularly table pressing issues,  debate solutions, and shape resolutions with far-reaching student representation.  Let me reiterate that no concerns will be dismissed without fair deliberation or follow-up.

“It’s worthy of note that our employability and self-sufficiency must take priority. This is the 21st century. The “SKILL UP KWARA STUDENTS” initiative will deliver specialized vocational training in high-income skills relevant to current economic realities.

“If given the mandate, we will drive local educational development and standards through Zonal Spelling Bees for Secondary Schools, rewarding academic talent recognition and prizes. As we all know, education remains indispensable to societal progress.

“In this era, idealism must marry enterprise. Our “NANS Kwara Entrepreneurship Contest” will scout and find student ventures contributing solutions to community challenges. On this path,  we want some of our students to be job creators and employers of labor rather than job seekers and employees.

“As a way of stimulating recreation and fostering inter-school unity, my administration will launch competitive sports tournaments across football, basketball, and table tennis involving campuses statewide.

“Progressive Nigerian Students, I have laid bare my agenda for uplifting the collective welfare of our student population.  Now, the power lies with your conscience and votes. I humbly solicit your support as well in concert to restore students’ collective welfare”, he added.
