A scandalous case of alleged car scam has been leveled against Dr. Ajewole Davies Ojo of the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences, University of Ilorin.
Alhaji Mashood Abiola Ishola, the complainant, has filed a direct complaint dated 28th October, 2024 and titled “CRIMINAL DIRECT COMPLAINT OF CRIMINAL BREACH OF TRUST AND CHEATING AGAINST DR. AJEWOLE DAVIES 0JO CONTRARY TO SECTION 312 AND 323 OF PENAL CODE LAW”, at the Kwara State Magistrate Court.
The complaint alleges that Ajewole bought a 2013 Toyota Avalon from overseas on behalf of Alhaji Ishola for $4,000, equivalent to N6.2 million. However, after paying the initial amount, Ajewole requested an additional $2,200, equivalent to N3.4 million, for shipping, trucking, and non-runner fees. The vehicle was supposed to be delivered on August 17, 2024, but Ajewole failed to meet the deadline.
When the vehicle finally arrived at the Lagos Seaport, Ajewole allegedly refused to pay the shipper company $1,400, equivalent to N2.1 million, causing the vehicle to be held up for 38 days and incurring demurrage penalties of N886,000. Ishola claims to have paid the demurrage penalties and is now demanding a refund from Ajewole, who has refused to comply.
Ajewole has however denied the allegations, calling them “a tissue of lies and cheap blackmail.” He also mentioned that the case is pending in the Federal High Court, scheduled for November 20.
