Unilorin Don, Prof. Adedimeji emerges Ahman Pategi pioneer VC

Prof. Adedimeji Mahfouz of the Univeristy of Ilorin has been appointed the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Ahman Pategi University.

Prof. Mahfouz who until his appointment was a lecturer at English Department, University of Ilorin is a former Acting Director, University of Ilorin Corporate Affairs.

Mahfouz A. Adedimeji is a language specialist with research interests in pragmatics, stylistics, sociolinguistics and applied linguistics.

He holds a B.A. (Honours), M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English Language from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, where is a faculty member.

Dr. Adedimeji has undergone training in media and communications at Governors States University, Illinois, USA, and he holds the FLTA Certificate of the Institute of International Education (IIE), New York, United States.  He also holds the Education Certificates of the Virtual Institute for Higher Education Pedagogy (VIHEP) of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Nigeria.

A Fulbright scholar and cultural ambassador,  Adedimeji had since 2000 acquired vast teaching and/or research experiences in such universities as Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Nigeria; Governors State University, Illinois, USA; and the University of Cape-Coast, Cape-Coast, Ghana.

He has been a columnist at various times with a number of newspapers and periodicals in Nigeria since 2000. Since early 2008, apart from his teaching and research activities, he has oversaw the Directorate of Information and Protocol of the University of Ilorin (now Directorate of Corporate Affairs), where he was responsible, among several other duties, for the production of the University weekly newsletter, Unilorin Bulletin, and the University annual magazine, Unilorin Star, both of which he mostly writes and edits. He has also served creditably in several University statutory and ad hoc committees.

Adedimeji has taught courses in the Use of English, Creative Writing, Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, African Novel, Language and Culture, Syntax, Semantics and Semiotics in Nigerian and American universities. He has also attended and presented papers in several academic conferences in Nigeria, Ghana, United States and Australia.

He has about forty publications in reputable outlets across Nigeria and beyond to his credit.

He is a member of the Nigeria English Studies Association (NESA), Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Fulbright Alumni Association of Nigeria (FAAN), among others. He is a poet, author, information management practitioner and editorial/communication consultant.
