The dead cultist, whose identity cannot be independently confirmed as at the time of filing this report, according to the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Kwara command, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, while evading arrest plunged to his death, by jumping into the Surulere canal.
Fresh Insight investigation confirmed that inter community fight had ensued between suspected cultists/hoodlums from Baboko, Oja tuntun and Surulere areas of Ilorin metropolis.
It was further gathered that the police from Surulere and other divisions were drafted in to restore normalcy, arresting suspects and injuring others along the line.
The aggrieved warring factions mobilised for a reprisal and possibly force the release of their arrested colleagues at the Surulere police division, thereby leading to fierce exchange of fire from both sides.
Okasanmi said “We had went to put a situation under control this morning involving two cult groups and we made some arrests.
“This boys mobilised themselves and begin to attack the police as a result of one of them who jumped inside a canal in Surulere while trying to evade arrest.
“We called the Fire Service to retrieve the body but the boys came to disrupt them and then  later the police retrieve the corpse from the cult guys.
“May be those people you saw at the headquarters came to express their grief over the death of one of them” Okasanmi said.
He however said, the police has launched an investigation into the matter to unravel the misery.
Fresh Insight recalls there had been recurrent cases of cult clashes and related deaths, accounting for no fewer than 10 deaths this year alone.
