The Senate Council of the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) has passed a vote of confidence in Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu.
This resolution followed the Senate’s inaugural sitting held on Monday at the hallowed chambers of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Ilorin.
The Senate cited Governor AbdulRazaq’s unwavering support for students of Kwara origin as the basis for its decision.
According to the Senate President, Abdullahi Biogera Issa, the Governor has significantly increased the annual bursary for students by over 100 percent and has provided the association with a vehicle and other palliatives to support its activities.
Issa, who presided over the plenary, expressed deep appreciation for the Governor’s consistent prioritization of student welfare and directed the Senate Clerk, Idowu Praise Oluwafemi, to formally convey the resolution to both the Governor and the Speaker.
The motion for the vote of confidence was moved by Deputy Senate President Abdulrasak Akanbi Alagbede and seconded by Senator Hanafi Aisha from Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin. It was unanimously adopted by the Senate.
In his remarks, the Senate President congratulated the newly inaugurated Senators representing various higher institutions across the country.
He urged them to serve their institutions with dedication, sincerity, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Among the issues discussed at the plenary were the alarming rise in cases of sexual violence against female students and the need to review the NAKSS Constitution, which was last amended in 2019.
Also during the session, NAKSS President Ibrahim Wakeel Ayinde presented the association’s 2025/2026 appropriation bill.
He revealed plans for several initiatives, including an inter-campus Olympic event, an economic and entrepreneurship summit aimed at empowering students, and a cultural event to crown the “Most Beautiful Kwara State Female Student.”
He also mentioned plans for a state-wide environmental sanitation campaign tagged Clean Up Kwara.
