The Association of Kwara state Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) has described as disturbing, the gruesome murder of a young, popular and promising Kwara based media personality, Yusuf Mubarak popularly known as ‘Authority’.
Mubaraq was declared missing on Wednesday evening, shortly after his visit to detained members of ASKOMP at the Kwara state Police Command, Ilorin, and later found dead at a private morgue on Saturday.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of ASKOMP, Salihu Shola Taofeek, the Association expressed deep sadness over the untimely death of Mubarak, describing him as an intelligent young man, full of promises.
“As a Professional Association, we are deeply saddened by the untimely death of Mubarak Yusuf ‘Authority’, an intelligent friend, brother and promising young man who was tragically killed shortly after his visit to the Kwara state Police headquarters, Ilorin, in solidarity with two of our members who have been incarcerated since Tuesday, 12th September, 2023.
“Mubarak was renowned for his creative writing prowess and unwavering commitment to the values of truth, transparency, and press freedom. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mubarak’s family, friends, and colleagues during this challenging time.”
“This deplorable incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers we all are exposed to on daily basis, by the incessant cult clashes, ritual killings among other criminal activities which the security formations in the State have proven themselves incapable of nipping in the board, thus far.
“While appreciating the directive of Kwara state Governor for thorough investigation over circumstances surrounding Mubaraq’s death, we join in calling on all security agencies to leave no stone unturned towards ensuring that the culprits of this destardly act are brought to justice, in a firm transparent and uncompromising manner.
Earlier, the Governor of Kwara state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON) has has charged security agencies to unravel the cause of the death of Mubarak.
The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, which was released to newsmen on Saturday evening described as shocking and saddening the death of Mubaarak under hazy circumstances that he said must be investigated by security agencies.
Equally, the Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu in a terse statement personally signed by him, joined the call for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mubarak’s untimely death so that the culprits would not go scot-free.
Danladi-Salihu while expressing deep sadness over the incident said “Losing someone so young is truly devastating and heart-wrenching, especially someone who has proven to have competence, capacity, will and zeal to make the youth constituency proud. I am pained and emotionally traumatized because Mubarak was beginning to have the world at his feet when the unfortunate incident happened.”
