Kwara LG Polls: PDP, Engr. Kale Kawu Disagree Over Alleged N27.8m Election Funding

Engr. Kale Kawu Agaka’s family has issued a statement denying claims that he supported or sponsored any candidate or party in the recent Kwara State local government elections.

According to the statement signed by Bolaji Kawu, “Engr. Kawu is a dedicated civil servant committed to upholding the ethics and principles governing civil servants in Nigeria, which prohibits involvement in partisan politics.

“As a civil servant, Engr. Kawu’s responsibility is to implement policies of the Federal Government of Nigeria, irrespective of political affiliations. He has always remained focused on his duties, serving the public interest with integrity and impartiality.”

The family urges the public to disregard the false claims, which they believe are attempts to tarnish Engr. Kawu’s reputation and mislead the public.

The PDP Grassroots Movement had commended Ilorin-born philanthropist, Engr. Kale Kawu, for his generous support of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates during the September 21 Local Government elections in Kwara state.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its Convener, Afeez Abdullahi, the group expressed gratitude to Kawu for donating funds to support PDP candidates.

According to the statement, the donation, which totaled N27.8 million, was distributed among candidates as follows; Councillorship candidates across 193 wards received N100,000 each, Chairmanship candidates received N500,000 each, while the Ilorin West LG PDP Chairmanship candidate received N1,000,000.

According to the group, Kawu’s support reflects his love for Kwarans who are yearning for genuine change at both state and local government levels.

“The financial support you gave our candidates through your emissary, Yusuf Sulu Gambari, was well received,” the group stated. “Even though the election was marred by deliberate disenfranchisement of eligible voters and manipulation of results by the APC-led government, the zeal with which Kwarans went into that election is an indication that your efforts and resources didn’t go to waste.”

The group concluded that Kawu’s efforts will ultimately yield positive results.
