The Kwara State House of Assembly has waded into the skyrocketing prices of goods in the market, stressing that it’s leading to increased starvation and hunger.
Hon. Abdullahi Halidu Danbaba (Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe) while moving the motion on the need to Control High Cost of food items in Kwara State KWHAM 15, on the floor of the House today raised concerns on the rate of food scarcity in the State, also frowned at the artificial scarcity allegedly created by market women/men being alleged of indulging in unwholesome act of hoarding the limited available food stuffs.
The House however resolved as follows “Urged the Government to direct the weight and Measure Unit of the Ministry of Enterprise to rise up to its responsibility of regulating prices of goods and services in the State
ii- Urged the Government to encourage massive food production by providing incentives for farmers in the State through farm inputs such as tractors fertilizer, pesticides etc. including loans and other facilities.
“Urged the Government to encourage community policing particularly in the hinterland and Border communities and encourage the security agencies to be more proactive in their duties of securing the lives and property of citizens in order to curb the space of insecurity in different parts of the State, and
“Directed the House Committee on Commerce, Industry, Women Affairs and Social Development to , in collaboration with Hon. Commissioner for Enterprise, interface with the leadership of the Market Women/Men Associations in the State to discuss the lingering crisis with a view to addressing the issues involved”.
