Kwara PDP Crisis: Youth Leaders demand Dan-Iya’s suspension over campaign funds scandal

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Leaders in Kwara have carpeted the party’s State Youth Leader, Prince Haliru Dantsoho Mahmud better known as ‘Dan Iya’ over what they described as ‘his outrageous claims and incessant verbal attacks on party leaders, especially against the former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki CON.’

The social media was yesterday, saturated with a video clip of the PDP’s Kwara state Youth Leader, Dan-Iya, who challenged leaders of the party to declare the amount of campaign funds received by the party for the 2023 general elections, who received it and explain how it was spent.

No fewer than 19 youth leaders of the party from across the sixteen local governments of the State however unanimously seek immediate suspension of Dan-Iya from the party forthwith.

A statement jointly signed by AbdulHamid Issa, Sulyman Kehinde and Jibril Audu, Senatorial Youth leaders of Kwara Central, South and North respectively, on behalf of the PDP Youth Leaders drawn across the sixteen (16) LGAs, described ‘Dan Iya’ as “a marauder who is always found wanting due to his serial betrayal, fraudulent antics and disloyalty to the party’s dictates.

“We, the Kwara PDP Youth Leaders across the sixteen LGAs and three Senatorial Districts have monitored with utmost dismay the countless outrageous claims and unruly attacks by a roundly-failed marauder like one Haliru Dantsoho against the Most Distinguished Leader of our great party in Kwara, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki CON., and by extension the major financier of the party in the state.

“We daresay it is not surprising that a renowned character like ‘Dan Iya’ who is always found wanting in several frauds and scandals of all sorts could once again attempt to cause disharmony within the party ranks and soil the untainted pedigree of our Most Distinguished Leader. For a dubious character like ‘Dan Iya’, who was recently rebuked by party stakeholders after being caught for illegally selling off equipment belonging to the PDP at its Asa-Dam office in Ilorin, to ask for transparency and accountability in the party sounds absurd to the hearing as party youth leaders in our various localities.

“Likewise, in 2018, We are not unaware of his antics against the instructions of the state chapter at the venue of our great party’s Port Harcourt presidential primaries when he sold off his vote and also tried to influence other persons to jeopardize the hope of a distinguished Kwaran to clinch the presidential ticket at the National Convention. How laughable could such an act by this unfaithful character claim to seek accountability and transparency from the party he once sold out? Again, we are in awe of his recent ‘strict instructions’ said to have been given to his family members by voting against the emergence of all PDP candidates at the 2023 general elections in Kwara state. What can be more unpatriotic than this?

“We are saying unequivocally that his act is an affront and debasement to the sacred office he is presently occupying.

“While we condemn in strong terms the statement written by this same character against the position of the State Working Committee (SWC) of our great party, we are saying emphatically that we align with the statement by the State Working Committee (SWC) signed by Rt. Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, State Chairman; and Mallam Razaq Lawal, State Secretary respectively, on the alleged campaign/election funds; which has been described as ‘a figment of the imagination of its carriers’.

“To again trace one of his numerous scandalous acts, in 2018, this same character, ‘Dan Iya’ carted away one of the campaign vehicles at the residence of the then Campaign DG, Prof Abubakar Suleiman. It took the intervention of party stakeholders for the case to be buried while he took custody of the vehicle unlawfully.

“It is no longer news that Dan Iya’s recent antics against his all-time benefactor is another turn of events for someone who ‘singlehandedly’ as claimed in his statement made him the State Youth Leader despite resistance from some quarters in the party. However, we indulge him to desist from attacking distinguished leaders and stakeholders of our great party and show contentment with the milkshake provided by state actors and his newly-found paymaster behind his over-bloated claims and attacks, especially against the former President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki.

“Henceforth, we, the PDP Youth leaders across the sixteen LGAs and three Senatorial Districts in Kwara State hereby disassociate ourselves from any activities superintending by Prince Haliru Dantsoho and his ilks. Also, we demand the immediate suspension of Prince Haliru Dantsoho Mahmud from the party forthwith to restore sanity and allow for a comprehensive investigation of his unguarded conduct.

“Finally, we reaffirm our unalloyed loyalty to the party especially our Most distinguished leader, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki CON for his continual support despite the hardship inflicted on the land by the ruling APC in the state.” it reads
