Kwara govt partners UNODC to train school teachers on drug abuse prevention, care

The Kwara State Government is set to organise a 2-day training on drug abuse prevention, treatment and care for public secondary school teachers across the state.

The capacity-building training, which is in partnership with the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is being put together by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control.

A statement on Monday by the Special Assistant (Drug Prevention and Control), Hon. Aileru Olamilekan Mikhail, said the event will hold on the 18th and 19th of December 2024 at House 12, GRA, Ilorin.

“The initiative will equip our teachers with necessary knowledge and skills to prevent substance abuse among students. Our main objective is to create a safer and healthier environment, especially for young people,” the statement read.

Aileru said the training underscores the vision of His Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for a drug-free Kwara State.

“The training is supported by the UNODC. Other partners are NDLEA and Maverick Initiatives. Together, we will enhance our teachers’ capacity to identify and address drug-related issues. Being a key and influential agent in society, our teachers will be offered practical strategies for prevention, treatment and care at the training,” he added.
