The Kwara State House of Assembly has advocated for stringent measures against indiscriminate refuse disposal in Ilorin, the state Capital.
This was part of resolutions of the House after considering Motion on Notice titled ” Need to Curb Use of Road Medians and Walkways as Refuse Dumps in Ilorin Metropolis” raised by the lawmaker representing Share-Oke Ode Constituency, Honourable Abdulrazaq Owolabi, plenary today.
Hon. Owolabi said the citizens, traders, shop owners in Oja Oba, Oja Tun Tun, Ipata, Gambari, Balogun Fulani, Centre igboro, Sango, Surulere other areas of the Ilorin metropolis are notorious for the uncivilized practice.
Other Lawmakers in the their contributions to the motion called for public enlightenment of the people to sensitize them on proper Environmental Sanitation to guarantee healthy environment
Reading the resolutions of the House, Speaker, Honourable Yakubu Danlad-Salihu urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to invoke the provision of relevant sections in the state Environmental Laws and establish Mobile Courts to bring erring members of the public to book to serve as deterrents to others.
The house also urged the government to
direct the Ministries of Health, Environment and Communications to swing into action of educating the people on the need to put an end to illegal dumping of refuse in the state capital.
