Kwara Assembly Call for Full Enforcement of Residents Registration Law to Combat Insecurity

In a bid to nip emerging security challenges in Kwara State in the bud, the State House of Assembly has called for the enforcement and full implementation of the Kwara State Residents Registration Law.

This call came during the Assembly’s plenary today, where legislators deliberated on measures to enhance security across the state amidst growing concerns.

Sponsored by Hon. Ganiyu Folabi-Salau representing Omupo Constituency, the motion titled “Need to Implement the Kwara State Residents Registration Law, 2020 and other Stringent Measures as Panacea for the Security Challenges in all the Local Government Areas of the State,” underscored the necessity of proactive measures to safeguard lives and property.

During the debate, lawmakers advocated for stringent penalties, including capital punishment, for individuals involved in kidnapping or banditry.

Additionally, the Assembly directed local government councils to establish community-based committees tasked with identifying non-indigenes seeking residency and promoting security awareness among residents.

In another development, the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital Establishment bill was read for the first time today at the floor of the Assembly.

Presented by the House Leader and member representing Ilorin Central, Hon. Abdulkadir Magaji, the bill was referred to the House Committee on Rules and Business for further legislative scrutiny.
