Kwara 2027: Omupo Constituency Backs Kwara North Power Shift Advocacy

Calls for Consideration of Ifelodun, Igbomina Blocs

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Omupo State Constituency have declared their support for a power shift to the Kwara North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections. They also urged the party leadership to consider Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi as the most qualified candidate to fly the party’s flag in the upcoming governorship race.

This resolution was made at a constituency meeting held at the Femi/Nike Campaign Council Secretariat. The meeting was convened by Hon. (Barr.) AGF Salahuddeen, the lawmaker representing Omupo Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly.

In his address, Hon. Salahuddeen emphasized the need for fairness, justice, and equity in the distribution of key political positions as the 2027 elections approach.

“It is imperative that we consistently stand for what is right, even in politics. I firmly believe—and I speak the mind of many here—that the governorship ticket of our party should be zoned to Kwara North,” he stated.

He noted that in the current democratic dispensation, Kwara North has yet to produce a state governor. “Considering the critical role the zone played during the Otoge movement that ended a long-standing political dynasty in the state, it is only just and fair that Kwara North is given the opportunity to lead,” he added.

Hon. Salahuddeen also threw his weight behind Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, describing him as a dependable ally of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and a competent leader capable of sustaining and building on the achievements of the current administration.

The lawmaker further advocated for equitable zoning in other elective positions: “It is the turn of Ifelodun Local Government to produce the party’s candidate for the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency, and the Igbomina bloc should produce the next senator for Kwara South.

The Igbomina have only served for about five years under Senator Makanjuola, while the Ibolo and Ekiti blocs would each have served 12 years by 2027.”

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hajji Femi Yusuf, Chief of Staff Chief Ademola Zubair reaffirmed support for the constituency’s leadership and highlighted recent developmental strides.

These include the procurement of tractors, improvements in security infrastructure, school renovations, road grading, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights across various communities.

Earlier in the meeting, the Ifelodun APC Chairman, Arc. Abubakar Lukman, welcomed stakeholders and commended both the Executive Chairman and Hon. Salahuddeen for their exemplary leadership and the developmental projects executed in the local government.

Other key stakeholders who expressed appreciation and pledged support include Comrade Abdulrahoof Labelabe, Alhaji Mustafa Leko, Hon. Yinka Lawanson (representing the eight Technical Advisers to the Governor), Hon. Ismail Bayangan, and Hon. Elizabeth Awobimpe.

Also present at the meeting were Prince Yinka Aliu, Princess Shade Atoyebi, Alhaji Idowu Alateowo, Hon. Babatunde Michael Taiwo, Alhaji Surajudeen, Hon. Alameen, Hon. Funmi Ajikobi, the eight ward chairmen, eight women leaders, eight ward secretaries, and eight youth leaders.
