Kwara 2023: APC, PDP Begins Billboard war

Ahead of 2023 general elections in Kwara state, the main political parties and their candidates are engaged in a struggle, which is almost turning bitter, for choice spaces to mount billboards to advertise themselves before their supporters.

The struggle has been intense in Ilorin and other major towns in the state between the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

As Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who is the gubernatorial candidate of the APC visits Ekiti local government for a town hall meeting today, Fresh Insight gathered that billboards of Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the PDP along the route leading to Obo-Aiyegunle where the Governor bagged chieftaincy title were defaced by hoodlums suspected to be working for the APC.

Pictures shared with Fresh Insight showed that billboards of SDP, ADC and PDP were painted black by suspected thugs believed to be members of the APC, to give impression that the area is dominated by the ruling APC alone to the Governor

Placement of billboards and posters ahead of elections is a major tool of electioneering by the political class in the country.

According to Fresh Insight’s investigation, no fewer than seven (7) billboards of the APC and PDP within Ilorin metropolis.

Some of the destroyed billboards located on Asa-Dam, Irewolede and Unity road, all in Ilorin, includes those of the PDP and APC Governorship candidates – Alh. Shuaib Abdullahi Yaman and Gov. AbdulRazaq, and that of the Presidential candidate of PDP – Atiku Abubakar.
