Ilorin East/South: Rumored adoption of Hon. Wahab Issa, a ruse – YPP

The rumored adoption of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate for Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency is false, this medium can authoritatively report.

It could be recalled that a Kwara based online platform had reported that YPP had adopted Hon. Wahab Issa as it’s House of Representatives candidate for the forthcoming elections, quoting an unknown source. A claim found to be false in its entirety.

According to our investigation, at no time did the leadership of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Kwara State consider adopting the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Ilorin East and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulwahab Oladimeji Issa for the February 25th National Assembly elections.

Oyewole Oladele, the State Publicity Secretary of YPP, in terse press statement said the rumored adoption of Issa was untrue and should be discountenanced.

“We are aware of a post credited to one Fatima Zahra Abdul-Qadir  on Facebook some few moments ago about Young Progressives Party adopting of Hon. Wahab Issa of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the House of Representatives.

“We will like to state that the information is NOT TRUE, as there was no such meeting with any candidate(s) outside of our party by the State Executives.

“We will like to implore the good people of Kwara and Young Progressives Party members to disregard the information as it is false in its entirety”, he added.

Similarly, a top member of the party from Ilorin South, Abdullahi Sheu, there is no iota of truth in such insinuation and should be discountenanced absolutely.

“Our party Chairman was in Baruten the day Wahab Issa claimed he met with him and since his return, we’ve not held any meeting.

“If such decision would be taken, it will come from the appropriate hierarchy of the party and same would be communicated by them and not through anyone. What you see is a ruse, please don’t fall for it.

Another source within the YPP who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity said “the meeting between some members of YPP and Issa was at the former lawmaker’s behest, where he tried lobbying us for support. We however never told him we are in his support, because we lack the capacity to take such decision for the party. More so, that we equally have a candidate for the same position.

“That is why you can see they are unable to quote any name of our party member or stakeholder who took the decision that only existed in their imaginations. We never knew his intention for meeting with us was mischievous”, the source added.
