Admission into the new Federal Science and Technical College, Gwanara, Baruten Local Government Area has begun, a development met met with enthusiasm and high expectations. The admission closes on June 1st, 2024, according to the school management.
In response to this milestone, the Speaker of the Kwara State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu expressed gratitude to the Governor, Mall. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON for his role in realizing this project.
The Speaker praised the Governor for his commitment to enhancing the state’s educational infrastructure and creating opportunities to equip future generations with the skill set required to excel in science and technical fields.
“The establishment of this institution has been a collaborative effort, symbolizing progress and commitment to educational advancement in Kwara State.
“The Federal government’s decision to site the Federal Science and Technical College in Gwanara is a testament to the importance placed on providing students with access to specialized and high-quality technical education.
“The launch of the Federal Science and Technical College in Gwanara not only signifies a new chapter in technical education but also represents a broader investment in the future of Kwara State. As admissions open and students eagerly prepare to join this institution, there is a sense of optimism and excitement surrounding the potential impact it will have on the educational landscape of the region.”
The Federal Science and Technical College in Gwanara is set to play a vital role in nurturing young talent and equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technical and innovation-driven world.
It would be recalled that in 2019, few months after inauguration of AbdulRazaq led APC government in Kwara state, President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government began process for the establishment of a Science and Technology in Kwara, following push by the State government.
Later that year, the Federal Ministry of Education Technical team visited the proposed site for the establishment of Federal College of Science and Technology which will be situated in Gwanara in Baruten Local Area of Kwara.
The team thereafter met with Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for debriefing.
The team comprised of the Procurement Officer in the Ministry, Mr Amele; two Deputy Director, Mr Aguiyi J.C and Mrs Ogah M.M; Assistant Director Legal Services, Mrs Hadiza Ibrahim.
Others are another Asst. Director in the Ministry, Mr. Osundeyi K. E and an Executive Project Coach, Mr Omata David.
The team leader, Amele expressed gratitude to Gov. AbdulRazaq and the Speaker of the Kwara state House of Assembly Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu for the hospitality and sincerity of purpose shown to them throughout the period of their stay in the state.
In his response, the governor expressed the state’s pleasure of having the team and the readiness of his administration to assist in this regard.
He urged the Federal Government to expediently give final approval to establish the school as there was no federal or state presence in terms of infrastructure and basic amenities needed for economic growth in Kwara North.
He acknowledged the benefits attached to the establishment of the college which include but not limited to rapid development and job creation for people in Baruten community and the state.
Abdulrazaq bemoaned what he described as lapses and misdirection of resources by the previous administrations which he explained led to deficits in infrastructure and retarded development in not just Kwara North but also the state generally.
He, however, promised to tackle the deficits with urgent government interventions which he promised to carry out as soon as possible. Manifestation of the Federal Government College of Science and Technology therefore reflects realization of the promises made by Governor AbdulRazaq to the people of Kwara North.
