The Waziri Karsa-Hausa, Waziri Yakubu Gobir has declared that the people of Ilorin have a unique identity, describing the city as a home for many ethnic groups.
Waziri made this remark at the reception held in honour of the Emir of Kano, His Eminence Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin Alh. (Dr) Ibrahim Zulu Gambari.
Waziri who was part of the Emirate delegation that received the Emir of Kano at the Ilorin International Airport, said there is no confusion about the identity of Ilorin people, saying Ilorin is the identity of the Ilorin people.
He further said Ilorin is a unique community with solid relationship with the North and South, and that Ilorin indigenes can comfortably become title holders and even traditional rulers in most part of the country.
He described the relationship between the Emir of Kano, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero and the Ilorin Emirate as a family relationship which is significant to the unity and peaceful coexistence of the country.
He said the Emir’s visit to Ilorin, his maternal home, is a great step in boosting the relationship that exist between his family and the Ilorin Emirate, and also to build synergy on various issues of common interest:
He urged leaders in the country to strengthen the unity among citizens and increase efforts in fighting the scourge of poverty which he said is a major challenge facing Nigeria and particularly Northern Nigeria.
