Gov. Abdulrazaq approves #25,000 daily allowance for Doctors, #10,000 for contact tracers
No fewer than 30 staffs of the University of Ilorin teaching Hospital have proceeded on self isolation Fresh Insight have gathered.
The Staff which comprises of medical doctors, Nurses and other support staff, went into isolation on Sunday morning, after one of their patients tested positive for the covid 19 pandemic.
Speaking with Fresh Insight, an highly placed source confirmed that an “Accident patient with head injury who was transfered to UITH ilorin, from Ladoke University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso tested positive for covid 19 and was one of the 2 declared new positive cases by the Kwara State Governor last Sunday.
“The said patient who is a driver was evacuated out of UITH on Sunday morning, almost 5 hours before official declaration and taken to the isolation centre.
“All the caregivers who came in contact with the victim who was on admission at the Accident and Emergency surgical unit of the hospital, have since been advised to proceed on self-isolation and samples taken” the multiple sources confirmed.
Speaking further, a nurse from the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTH) who craved anonymity
confirmed to Fresh Insight that the accident victim was transferred to UITH from LAUTH on April 24th, she, however, denied knowledge of his been testing positive for COVID 19.Further findings by Fresh Insight showed that virtually all affected UITH staff supposed to be on self-isolation have refused to self isolate, as some of them were seen walking around in their various communities while others were sighted at the market yesterday.
Speaking further on the UITH staff, a ministry of Health source said “There results should be out today (Tuesday) and hopefully it’ll all come out negative because almost 70% of those advised to proceed on isolation had mild contact with the confirmed patient” he enthused
Asked on why all the affected staff isn’t made to undergo isolation under the watchful eyes of the government in a government-controlled facility, the source said “Most of the affected UITH staff are Muslims, they’re observing Ramadan, the burden to isolate them all under a roof will be too big, moreover under the guise of isolating them under roof, there is the possibility of having contact whereby someone who might be infected amongst them will now transfer the virus to others not infected.
“They’re all health workers, so they know the rules of self-isolation and I can assure you we’re keeping a close watch on them, pending the outcome of the result which is expected any moment from now” he added.
Meanwhile, the investigative panel set up by the UITH management yesterday officially submitted its report to the management for implementation.
The report which was officially submitted in the morning yesterday after almost 2 weeks behind schedule is said to be studied by the management for prompt action according to recommendations of the committee.
In the same vein, Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has approved a daily allowance of #25,000 for medical personnel in the front line taking care of the confirmed COVID 19 patients while the sum of #10,000 is to be paid daily allowance to the contact tracers.
