Mr. Wahab Oba, former Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to ex-Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, has rejected his appointment as Media Assistant to the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Sulyman Abubakar.
In a statement, Oba expressed surprise at the announcement, which he deemed “offensive” since it was made public without his consent or response to the initial offer. He clarified that his prior discussion with the DG was about potential consultancy work, not employment.
Oba cited changed political dynamics and his commitment to the Saraki political family as reasons for declining the offer, noting that Prof. Suleiman’s political inclination is ambiguous. He also emphasized that the position was beneath his status, given his experience as a former NUJ chairman in Lagos State and CPS for eight years.
Oba expressed gratitude for the consideration but stated that the appointment was not suitable for him. He suggested that the role would be better suited for a junior professional looking to advance their career.
The rejection letter was made public due to the announcement being made without Oba’s consent, which he believed could potentially tarnish the reputation of the NILDS DG’s office.
