The Kwara State Government have shed more light on the rationale behind the sack of the Provost, Kwara State College of Education, Prof. Abdulraheem Yusuf and immediate replacement with Dr. Ahmed Jimoh Ayinla.
The government who spoke exclusively to Fresh Insight via a telephone interview with the State’s Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, described the sack as following extant laws.
The Ilorin born lawyer turned politicians when asked the reasons for the termination of the former provost’s appointment, almost 12 months before its completion said “The extant laws, empowers the Governor to hire and fire without giving any reason(s) for such constitutionally sanctioned power.
” The law only mandates due consultations with the relevant bodies, in this case the Institution’s governing council as the case maybe” he added.
In the same vein, the sacked provost while responding to Fresh Insight’s enquiries on his sack said “As a Muslim, I believe in the ultimate power of the Almighty to do and undo, that’s why since the first day I assumed office, I’ve always been conscious of the day I’ll leave.
“I came from the University of Ilorin to conduct surgical operations endemic in the school, ranging from corruption, indiscipline and ultimately improve the academic standards of the Institutions.
“Records are available to show the successes we achieved even against all odds. I therefore appreciate the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mal. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for the opportunity given to serve and also appreciate the management, staff and students of the Institution.
“I am particularly glad, I came and leaving with my integrity intact. I was never found wanting in the discharge of my duties and that’s gratifying for me personally” he enthused.
