Cash Crunch: Gov. AbdulRazaq’s address watery, emotionless – Kwara SDP

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has condemned the State broadcast by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq made yesterday to the agonised people of Kwara State, describing it as not only empty but also suffers severe shortage of life support oxygen expected by the traumatised people of Kwara State who are already pushed to the wall!

According to a statement signed by the SDP State Chairman, Alh. AbdulAzeez Afolabi, “The barely sixty-seconds State address over the lingering socioeconomic dislocation that was inflicted on the people by the CBN ill-motivated and draconian monetary policy, as an evidence that Governor lacks the understanding of the basic issues and, ipso facto, he was bereft of ideas of possible solutions.

“Not a few Kwarans were surprised that the Governor was silent on why his administration failed to file a joinder as co-plaintiffs in the ongoing litigation instituted by Kogi, Kaduna and Zamfara States at the Supreme Court, if only to prove the point that the Governor actually empathizes with the people.

“On Wednesday, some States that the Apex Court allowed to join the case to challenge FG’s decision, were; Lagos, Cross River, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo and Sokoto states. Even the President’s home state, Katsina, also persuaded the Court to allow it to file legal processes to nullify the new monetary policy. But where was Kwara State in this legal battle on side of the Nigeria people? In his characteristic manner, Kwara Governor has chosen to hid behind his finger in his usual mercurial and ambivalent nature!

“Last week, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq promised to put free ride Buses on the road as a measure to ameliorate people’s suffering. It is amazing that he failed to apologize for his inability to deliver on that promise in his address.

“Another serious deficit in the Governor’s address was the absence of actions already taken or to be taken by the State Government against those Commercial Banks and/or public institutions that reject the old banknotes as legal tender, in breach of the Supreme Court ruling?

“Kano, Lagos, Bornu States are reported to have taken more practical steps against the ‘economic saboteurs’ in the States with various policy measures that are yielding fruitful results in compliance. It is open to public conjecture why Kwara has remained a lame duck in responding to people’s yearnings but has chosen to shed crocodile tears while dancing on people’s emotions.

“In this circumstance, it is important to appeal to fellow Kwarans not to be provoked into violence or anything that may lead to break down of law and order, which was the motive of some forces of darkness that do not want the forthcoming elections to hold in this State.

“Let us remain resolute to flush out this political renegade by voting for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to form a truly progressive and purposeful government for Kwarans”, the statement added.
