2027: Kwara Central APC Elders Call for Guber Zoning to Kwara North, Urges Gov. AbdulRazaq to Run for Senate

In a press conference held at Adewole Estate, Ilorin, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Concerned Kwara Central Senatorial Elders has urged the party to zone the governorship position to Kwara North in 2027. The elders cited the need for equity, fairness and inclusivity in the state’s governance, noting that Kwara Central has held the position for 20 years.

The group, according to its spokesperson, Alh. Hassan AbdullahI Eiyenkorin acknowledged the significant role Kwara Central has played in the state’s politics, but emphasized that it’s time for the pendulum to swing towards Kwara North. They pointed out that the current administration, led by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, will be ending its term in 2027, and it’s only fair that the governorship seat be ceded to Kwara North.

The elders recalled the mutual understanding reached in 2019 between Kwara Central and Kwara North leaders, where they pledged to support Kwara North’s aspiration for the governorship in 2027. They urged their fellow sons and daughters from Kwara Central to honor this agreement and lend their support to ensure that Kwara North realizes its ambition.

The group also paid tribute to the late Alhaji Musa Mayaki, former Chairman of Concerned Kwara Central Elders, who played a pivotal role in the Otoge movement that swept the PDP government out of power in Kwara State in 2019. They observed a minute of silence to honor his memory and legacy.

The elders further highlighted the contributions of the Abdurazaq administration, citing its commitment to social justice and development projects in the state. They noted the completion of Unity Road and bridges on Murtala Road, as well as the ongoing work on Taiwo and Emir Roads, among other projects.

In a surprising twist, the elders called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to take a shot at the Kwara Central senatorial aspiration in 2027, citing his vast experience as a quiet achiever and dogged champion of the masses. They expressed confidence that he would facilitate great projects to the Kwara Central senatorial district and Kwara State as a whole.
