In a surprising turn of events, the Kwara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has seemingly mended fences following a rift that emerged post-2023 elections. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq recently made a significant move towards reconciliation by appointing Senator Ibrahim Yahya Oloriegbe as Ameerul-Hajj for 2024.
According to a statement on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaiye, Kwara State Gov. AbdulRazaq appointed Senator Oloriegbe as the leader of the state’s contingent to 2024 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Kwara State has at least 3,102 pilgrims for this year’s Hajj — one of the highest in the country.
The statement said “the choice of the senator is borne out of his experience and networks as a Muslim community leader.
The government believes that the senator will deploy his knowledge and understanding of the terrain to ensure improved coordination and efficiency for the exercise.”
However, with this recent appointment, it appears that Governor AbdulRazaq is taking steps to heal the divides within the Kwara APC. By extending an olive branch to Senator Oloriegbe, the governor has signaled a willingness to foster unity within the party.
