UNILORIN DON demands compulsory patronage of local innovations

 

A University of Ilorin Don, Prof. Jamiu Kolawole Odusote has advocated for the enactment of laws and policies that makes it compulsory on Government, Agencies, Departments among others to compulsorily patronise local innovations and products.
The Professor of Material and Metallurgical Engineering, made this demand while delivering the 246th in the series of Inaugural lectures in the University of Ilorin today.
Odusote who the pioneer Professor of the Department in the University, said “Technology has a major role in developing and solving the precarious problem of this nation. It is paramount for researchers to turn attention into developing our local raw materials/mineral resources in providing solutions to the prevailing problem of energy, power, unemployment, insecurity and economic downturn.
“The review Engineering curricular to meet the societal and industry needs is very important in order to make graduates make-ready and contribute positively to national developments and societal growth.
“The Government, Ministries, Departments and Parastatals should be mandated to patronise research products from Universities and Research Institutes. This will encourage the development of novel materials for advancement of human lives and economy of the nation” he added.
