Barrister Kunle Sulyman, Chairman of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s Advisory Council and Pioneer Chairman of the People’s Democratic (PDP) in Kwara state, has called for a power shift to Kwara North, citing historical imbalance and promoting unity within the state. Sulyman made this assertion while speaking on various issues, including the party’s internal dynamics and the progress made under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, with the Voice of Nigeria.
According to Sulyman, who is currently a prominent Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), “the north had only held the governorship for a brief period of two years during the tenure of Shaaba Lafiagi, before his administration was abruptly terminated by military intervention.” He emphasized that it was only right that the north be given another opportunity to produce the next governor, promoting equity, justice and fairness.
Sulyman also urged the APC leadership to expel Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo for engaging in anti-party activities, specifically forming a parallel group known as the Kwara Redemption Movement (KRM). “The spate of indiscipline must end. Nobody should openly work against the party that made them,” Sulyman stated.
On President Tinubu’s leadership, Sulyman praised his administration, saying, “The President has rolled out numerous palliatives to ease the hardship caused by fuel subsidy removal.” He also boasted that Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is already secured, citing the progress made under his leadership.
Sulyman also commended Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq for transforming Kwara State through urban renewal projects. However, he criticized Oyedepo and his supporters for branding the governor as a “sole administrator,” stressing that major decisions are made collectively. “When the Governor came on board, he set up the Governor’s Advisory Council… We collectively advise the Governor. So how can anyone call him a sole administrator?”
